Description of the course "Logistics"

Logistics at the Pomeranian College of Higher Education in Starogard Gdański is a field of study constituting a separate part of one area of education - management and quality sciences, implemented at the university in the manner specified by the curriculum, in the form of part-time studies, at the first degree level. The degree programme is of a practical nature, which means that the education takes place taking into account such course modules, forms and methods of education that serve the purpose of the student's acquisition of theoretical knowledge and the acquisition of practical skills and competences throughout the education. Such a concept of education is in line with the university's mission and development strategy, and is in line with the objectives set out in the unit's strategy and the education quality assurance policy.

The educational concept of the logistics degree is in line with the needs of the socio-economic environment and the local labour market. The studies are closely linked to cooperation with local businesses. This cooperation is a distinctive feature of PSW. Kociewie is a significant medium-sized centre with small and medium-sized enterprises as well as large production plants, e.g. Polpharma S.A. Representatives of these entities are part of the PSW Stakeholder Council, which gives its opinion on any changes to education by indicating comments on programme improvement and confirmation of learning outcomes. The PSW partners also suggest the most important needs coming from the labour market. Practical exercises are held at their premises, their representatives also participate in meetings and workshops organised by the University and in the design of activities and solutions operating at the University. The concept of education in the field of logistics, in accordance with the University's mission, educates, first and foremost, for the needs of the region and the country, specialists prepared to participate in the civilisational development of society and the professional working environment of logisticians, while providing academic staff with significant scientific achievements in the disciplines of management science and quality, as well as, due to the practical profile of the faculty, some staff with professional experience in the field of logistics, while at the same time ensuring a high standard of educational quality by supporting it with a well-functioning internal educational quality management system.

Ensuring the high professional level of the staff is also achieved through cooperation with employers and attracting specialists-practitioners with professional experience in TSL companies-to the training process.

The study programme for the logistics degree consists of six modules. The first module contains general subjects related to social competences and general knowledge, e.g.: philosophy with elements of ethics, basics of sociology, basics of economics, information and communication technologies or principles of occupational health and safety. The key educational contents, including those related to practical professional preparation, are realised within the framework of three modules that are grouped as directional subjects, e.g. logistics infrastructure, production logistics, ecology, product life cycle management and specialisation subjects. Two modules prepare students for the writing of the diploma thesis and for professional activity through compulsory internships.
